Scott Base in the Antarctic is 50 years old, and Sir Edmund Hillary is visiting at the ripe old age of 87. via International Herald Tribune
The Antarctic has also been in the news recently when polar scientists warned that tourism is putting pressure on its ecosystem. Chinese tourists evidently frequent the area.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Man Vs. Wild on the Discovery channel is worth a watch. The star is Bear Grylls (yes, his name is Bear) and he’s fairly amazing. Somehow he manages to be tougher than all of us without being pretentious. The show airs Friday nights at 9pm ET on Discovery.
